What is Writing-PAD?
Founded in 2002, Writing-PAD - ‘Writing Purposefully in Art and Design’ is now an international network of art and design (A&D)
institutions with our own Journal of Writing in Creative Practice (JWCP) published by Intellect. Writing-PAD offers an arena in which to explore and
develop the notion of ‘thinking through writing’ as a parallel to visual discourse in art and design practice. Writing-PAD has not only brought
together tutors from across the disciplines, but also from across roles: i.e. studio staff, theory staff, learning support, and learning and teaching
(L&T) coordinators. Based at Goldsmiths, University of London, Writing-PAD now works in conjunction with over a hundred A&D institutions.
The Journal of Writing in Creative Practice is now available from Intellect.
Writing-PAD promotes theories of writing in creative studio practice and approaches to writing for art and design FE and HE. For
further information about the Journal of Writing in Creative Practice and the Writing PAD Wiki/Glossary site click on 'News' in the box to the right
of this page.
If your institution is interested in becoming a part of the network, would like to form a centre, or if you would like a
visit from a Writing PAD representative, please contact Julia Lockheart.
