CALL FOR PAPERS

In 2007, we launched the Journal of Writing in Creative Practice, published by Intellect Books.

The Journal of Writing in Creative Practice is the official organ of the Writing Purposefully in Art and Design (Writing PAD) network. It offers art and design institutions an arena in which to explore and develop the notion of thinking through writing as a parallel to visual discourse in art and design practice. The journal aims to extend the debates to all national and international higher educational art and design institutions.

FROM 2009 THE JOURNAL OF WRITING IN CREATIVE PRACTICE WILL BE GUEST EDITED BY MEMBERS FROM OUR WRITING PAD CENTRES

From 2009 we are giving all of our Writing PAD Centres the opportunity to host an event and collate the best papers from that event in their own, guest edited issue of the Journal of Writing in Creative Practice. The first Centre to do this is York Saint John University. Issue 1 and 2 of Volume 2, will be guest edited by Dr Susan Orr and Claire Hind, and is to be published in January 2009. These two issues will showcase the work presented at Writing Encounters within Performance and Pedagogical Practice: a conference held at York Saint John University in September 2008. For more details about this event see:
The Space Between Words

The symposium which will accompany issue 3, Volume 2 will be held at Swansea Metropolitan University which is our Wales Writing PAD Centre. Issue 3: Volume 2, will guest edited by a group consisting of representatives from Swansea Metropolitan University, University of Wales Institute Cardiff (UWIC), University of Wales, Newport and Trinity College Carmarthen, University of Wales.

Following this we will have events and accompanying issues of the Journal of Writing in Creative Practice by our Writing PAD Centre in Scotland: Edinburgh College of Art, our Writing PAD Centre in Australia, Swinburne University of Technology and our Writing PAD Centre in OSLO: KiHO (Kunsthøgskolen i Oslo).

After we have completed this exciting exploration of the writing cultures surrounding the Writing PAD Centres (around 2010), subsequent publications will return to covering the following themes:

1) Writing as/for/in art
2) Writing as/for/in craft
3) Writing as/for/in designing
4) Writing as/for/in performance
4) Writing, ethics and practice

If you would like to submit an article on one of the above topics, please send your full paper of either
a) short exploratory articles, conference or book reviews and reviews of the Writing PAD effect on your institution: 1,500,
b) medium, more realised articles of no more than 3000, or
