Make Dyslexia Your Friend, Not Your Enemy
Jane Graves, ex-Central Saint Martins
“'Make dyslexia your friend, not your enemy' was a slogan I invented one day when wrestling (if this is the appropriate word) with a dyslexic
student, who was determined to play to her weaknesses rather then her strengths, (something which the education system not infrequently encourages us
to do.)...Whatever difficulties the students have, they are not only more than the sum total of their problems but they seemed to
possess...persistence certainly, courage definitely... but also something else I couldn't define.”
The discussion paper illustrates
some aspects of the different learning styles of students with dyslexia, and how these can be a source of strength but also problems in current higher
education in art & design.
